Next Monthly Meeting & Demonstration

is online via Zoom 7 September 2020 at 7:30pm

Craig Penny will be demonstrating a landscape painting in Acrylic

Born in Mildura in 1961, Craig showed an interest in art and drawing at a very young age. In 1970, his family moved to the Western District of Victoria. His love of art saw him enrol in the art course at Hamilton Technical School in 1976. At the age of 16 his artistic interests extended into ceramics and sculpture, and he constructed several wood fired kilns in his parents’ backyard.

Craig studied art at Federation University in Ballarat, where painting and graphic design attracted most of his attention. Craig pursued a successful career as an illustrator in the advertising industry and became a member of the Illustrators Association of Australia.

Craig’s career has progressed into a range of mediums including skills in computer graphics. As a result Craig has also undertaken a successful career in teaching both traditional drawing and illustration and digital drawing and illustration at both Victoria University and Swinburne University. Throughout this time, he never lost his love of using traditional methods and subsequently specialized in watercolour and acrylic painting. This has lead to an extremely successful solo career.

In 2001, Craig had his first major solo exhibition at Manyung Gallery in Mt Eliza, Victoria. In 2007, his work was accepted by Gallery Diamante in Carmel California. Craig has lead painting and sketching trips to Cambodia, Vietnam, Greek Islands, France and Japan.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I like to think that to paint a successful painting is not so much to have tamed the beast,  rather to have been taken along for the ride and still be there at the end of the experience.

For me painting is like life … giving yourself enough skill, knowledge and integrity and then letting yourself free to take what is thrown your way.

You don’t need to tame and control it for magic to happen… you just need to be there at the end.

Stephie Clarke will be demonstrating a floral painting in Pastel

Stephie Clark is based in Armidale, NSW. She is a passionate pastel artist who is best known for her free and flowing florals and fruit – her style is uninhibited by rules and boundaries. She normally divides her time between painting in her studio and teaching workshops in Australia and in France. Pre Covid-19, Stephie was going to present at our Art-In-Action event and conduct a workshop for us in April. These events were cancelled, so we are delighted that she is able to demonstrate for us via Zoom in August. For more information about Stephie, go to her website https://stephieclark.net/about

Thank you to Louise Corke

Louise teaches regularly in her Studio, around Australia and overseas. She has been awarded over 75 prizes and has been published numerous times in Australian, French and USA publications and showcased on the Colour in Your Life TV Series. Her work is found in both public and private collections around the world. A big thank you to Ben Winspear!

Ben sold the painting from our May demonstration

  2. Take a photo of yourself and your painting together (or if you can’t do that, then one of yourself)
  3. Identify the category you want to enter
  4. Then email your 2 hi-resolution pics and your category to info@vicpastel.com.au.

The paintings will be uploaded to our EME Awards Entries webpage and members will be asked to vote via email.

Details on how to enter & vote are available on the EME Awards webpage and further instructions will be sent to members each month via email, on when to submit paintings and when to vote.

We are monitoring the current situation

The PSVA Committee has decided to continue with our online Monthly Meetings & Demonstrations as well as our online EME Awards for the time being. We will continue to review the situation on a month -to-month basis.

So for now,  all PSVA ‘face-to face’ events are still on hold. This includes Art-In-Action, Workshops, and Paint-Outs. We are hoping that we are able to conduct our next Paint Out in September. We believe the well-being and safety of our members & the community is our top priority and that this decision is in everyone’s best interest.

We will continue to monitor this evolving health situation and will keep you informed of any further developments or changes to our Program via email.

Members can still look forward to your VicPastel News magazine sent out bi-monthly as well as demonstrations online via Zoom and our monthly EME Awards being held online.  You may also like to stay in touch through our Facebook Group and PSVA on Instagram @pastelsocietyvictoria
